Coupling service time

Proper alignment is the key to longevity. Standard couplings can adjust Angle and axial offset, but the lower the working Angle, the longer the service life. Couplings shall be mounted at the smallest possible Angle and shall be achieved using laser alignment or other alignment tools.

Proper lubrication is essential for long life.

1. Couplings shall be lubricated with lithium soap-based grease containing extreme pressure additives. Examples include, but are not limited to, ESSO Beacon EP and Mobil Temp 78. There are many alternatives available, as nearly every grease manufacturer manufactures grease for this and similar applications. It is very important that different kinds of grease can not be mixed, and even different brands of the same kind of grease should be checked for compatibility before use. Please consult us for special advice on special applications such as high speed, extreme temperature, extreme humidity or water.

2. After shrinking the hub on the shaft and positioning the gear sleeve, the cavity between the hub and sleeve should be greased using a spatula. A thin layer of adhesive film should be coated on the surface of the matching flange, and the connecting bolt should be tightened to an appropriate torque. After connecting the half flange, the pipe joint should be added through the grease nozzle. When filling through the grease filling port, make sure that the pipe joint is being filled. If filling is difficult, remove the butter nozzle or stopper. Once it is determined that the fitting has been refilled, replace any grease nozzles or stoppers removed and tighten them properly.

3. The couplings should be re-lubricated 3 months before operation. From then on, the lubrication interval may be extended to 6 months, but no longer than 1 year. The lubrication interval should take into account the severity of the operation.

4. When lubricating, completely replace the grease in the coupling. It is better to remove the grease refueling nozzle 180° from the refueling nozzle used for the refueling pipe joint. Pump in fresh grease until the grease begins to drain from the opening. Once it is determined that the fitting has been refilled, replace any grease filler nozzles or plugs that have been removed and properly tightened.

5. Every 8000 hours or 2 years, the couplings should be opened, grease thoroughly removed, and replaced with new grease. Flange faces shall be cleaned and rejoined as described in point 2 above.
